I see what you are getting at LN Coran but I still am not convinced Magdalena is not in league with Corrine in some weird loyal way with Magdalena and Corrine being old friends

I don't think Magdalena and Corrine were old friends. I think they know each other through Gideon but thats it.

I'm convinced Magdalene is being catty to Corrine, and not just to get even either. Corrine may be in a state of denial Gideon is deeply unhappy, but Magdalene probably sees crystal clear he's in agony. Probably understands that Eva being gone is the reason. Probably blaming Corrine for having destroyed Eva's trust in Gideon, driving Eva away forever.

Bottom line: Magdalene saw Gideon fall in love, then Corrine crashed back onto the scene, Eva's gone and Gideon is heartbroken. Magdalene would blame Corrine for it all.

definitely. Eva blew all Gideons barriers to smithereens. As he said, she will have no secrets from him, the same has to be said about him. When he opens up more to Eva about his past, only then will he be free.

We all know Eva is the one for Gideon and I don't think Corrine can handle it, for now she thinks she is the one but surely she is not that dumb when all he is doing is having her escort him to events

I agree. I think deep down Magdalena cares for Gideon as a good friend and is not willing to lose him that way. She has finally realized there will not be anything romantic between them but she still wants to be a part of his life. And she may even be happy that he found his true love!

Yes I never thought of it like that. I did always wonder why Magdalena called Eva that day after the gala and relayed how Gideon was managing Corrine, I just thought it was Magdalena being annoying and trying to wind up Eva but your explanation makes more sense, thanks

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYBODY!!

Here's the lines I liked most in Chap 14:

1)Cary's closing line is the best thing I've ever read in quite a long time

but I found myself smiling also at Eva's

2) I've never dated ayone who makes national headlines by sneezing

CIAO!!!

I've completely reconsidered Magdalene as a character because of all of this careful re-reading of the series, one chapter at a time.

I think Magdalene is subtly (and cleverly) portrayed as what Corrine actually should be but isn't - a true old friend to Gideon who wants what's best for him and who "gets" it that she (Magdalene) does not stand a chance at being anything more than an old friend. Magdalene comes across as a b***** on the surface but who is genuinely honest underneath. Contrast that to Corrine who comes across as sweet on the surface but is dishonest and self-delusional underneath.

Magdalene wants her old friend to be happy, even if that means another woman making him happy. She wants to be his friend.

Corrine wants Gideon no matter what, even if it means destroying happiness he found with someone else. Under the cover of "friendship" she's been trying to manipulate him the whole time, sensing at least enough to know there's something broken there.

Well put! I agree 100%

i think Gideon has seen through Corrines little ruse. He is very good ( sometimes, cr* p at others)at taking notice about the small details. Things Eva had mentioned, Magdalenes hair for instance, but he needs Corrine at the moment to be his " girlfriend". His a bit slow, but he will get there. Bless him!

I do think Corrine will be going bye bye in this book. I don't think they will be able to have a friendship after everything that has happened. She will always want more. There is too much dishonesty and pain between them. Like LN said she is not truly a real friend, she wants Gideon at any cost.

Sylvia has hinted that Corrine is history because Corrine hurt Eva. Makes sense. What Corrine did was a lot worse than Magdalene.

I think I shall re-read the stories again especially with only 4 weeks to go before the new books are out, I must admit I have only read them a couple of times so what you wrote LN makes sense so I will re-read them

that is why you can't read these books once. You pick up on things on the second third fourth.......time round that you missed the first time. My books are so dog eared I've got to replace them.

When Eva told Corrine at her apartment that maybe if Corrine was his friend, she'd see that he was deeply hurting. A true friend would see that.  In my opinion that was the slap in the face that stung a lot more proving Corrine doesn't care about Gideon's feelings at all because all she cares about is being his wife and making sure she's eliminated the competition. Can you imagine if he ever did tell her about his nightmares and his past? I can't imagine her being the type to stick around during the bad times only the good. I can't wait until she's written out of the chapter. I've completely changed my opinion about Magdalene because she cares about her friend Gideon.

A little bit disappointed with Gideon.

At the beginning of Bared, after Eva had returned from lunching with Stanton. She was in the lift, eating chocolate, when Gideon got in. He said no lies Eva, ever. Duh! What did he do in chapter 13, lie. Oh Gideon.

I shook my head when I read what he did in chapter 13.
