I like books too.  I have a lot of them.  The last time we moved my husband told me he was never packing or moving any of my books again so I better pick a place and stay there.  I still buy hardback books by my favorite authors but I do all of my reading on my Nook.  My favorite movie line ever is from Out of Africa.

Karen is talking to Berkley

Karin: He has got lovely books. Does he lend them?

Berkley:  We had a friend...Hopworth, he'd got a book from Denys and didn't return it. Denys was furious. I said to Denys...

"You wouldn't lose a friend for the sake of a book. " He said, "No, but he has, hasn't he?"

My husband always said that was me.  I lend books to friends all the time but I hate when they don't give them back.

love that line! It's very fitting for me as well.  I've lent my books out then become all anxious when they don't return them! Last time I moved my older brother told me he refuses to carry my books again so I beter not move! lol. I need to just cave in and get a kindle or whatever to make it easier when travelling and just buy my favorite books to keep. Trouble is I'll want all of them!

I might be in the minority, here, but I love that we don't get to see inside Gideon's head.  So many times I'm reading along, thinking, "OK, this is terrible, there's no excuse for this," and then we later find out what Gideon was really doing/thinking/feeling (because he tells Eva part or all of it) and - click - it makes sense.  I also love the way both characters' perceptions and actions are colored by their insecurities.  The places we see Eva being an unreliable narrator are clever and well done.  IMO, these bits are what makes it so much fun to reread the Crossfire books.  A lot of authors attempt it [unreliable narrators, misunderstandings] but Day does it so very well!  I find myself nodding along rather than being frustrated.

Hi Sarah

I also love that its from Eva's POV but there were times in Reflected especially I wished I could get a peek into Gideon's head.Someone tweeted Sylvia and asked if CBY will have Gideon's POV and Sylvia said partially.

I don't remember how I discovered the books but I know there was a lot of buzz around them ,I remember the local bookstore had a whole shelf dedicated to them.

I would have loved to see your face the first time you read !

It was like being a kid on Christmas morning, seeing all of the presents under the Christmas tree only, I got the adult version of Christmas presents (just kidding)! :)

OH, so yes to all, dear GiGi!

By the way - do you have read them? You told us how you got the FSOG but did you read them and did you enjoy?

Have a lovely week :)

Guten Tag Meine Liebe SME,

I really enjoyed the Fifty Shades of Grey series.  I found EL James' writing style to be very refreshing.  Her English references didn't bother me in the least (Canada and England have the same language system).   I honestly didn't understand why so many people got upset by her use of English references?

If an author has a writing style that I am not familiar with (e.g. Leo Tolstoy), then I make a pet project to look up any sayings or wordings to understand their meaning.  I look at it as an opportunity to learn something new.  EL James' list of music references was WONDERFUL!!!  I wasn't familiar with some of the artists such Nitin Sawhney and it was Fantastic!!!

I loved every single thing about the books!!  I am only sad that the story ended!  I know that there are many people that read the series only for the se* and I think that it is a little sad.  Ms. James' books offer so much more than just "mommy p***" (not my favourite saying by the way- it is really disrepectful of women and mothers in general).

I am often astounded by people's visceral reactions to both EL James and Sylvia Day.  I found it absolutely astounding that people can be incredibly and openly rude about their opinions.  What ever happened to common sense?  What ever happened to if a person doesn't like something then they aren't obligated to purchase another book from these authors?  I have to wonder?  What do you think?  :)

Hi Nathalia

Deanna : I think she should have known herself better ,I don't think you just pick up a guy for a one night stand and then catch feelings when he doesn't treat you the way you expect .You don't know the first thing about this guy so you can't expect anything and I don't think she should have put herself out there in this way if she knows she's sensitive.Without a doubt Gideon was horrible to her and no one should be treated in such a manner but they were both adults no promises were made and she should really move on .Why waste the time with the personal vandetta

Monica:It also puzzles me that Monica didn't know what was going on for four years .Its almost as if she wasn't intimately involved with Eva on an emotional /physical manner .The best I can think of is that she was young ,without support and found herself with a child and in her desperate scramble to build and maintain a life for herself and her child she didn't pay attention as a normal parent might have .I think she got it too late and because of that she overcompensates .

Hi Mam2e & Nathalia,

I agree with both of you ladies.  I think that the way Gideon treated Deanna was not nice.  Instead of saying to Deanna, "hey you seem like a nice person but I am not really into this experience" he didn't say anything to her and I think that is what she found so upsetting.  It wasn't nice of Gideon.  He did owe her some sort of explanation (not because they were in a relationship but just to be a human being).

I however don't understand the level of Deanna's hatred.  She went back to Gideon's hotel room willingly, knowing full well that this was a one-night stand. It was almost as if this was her first se*ual experience.  Barring someone being violent or forcing themselves upon another person, just meeting and sleeping with someone in a matter of hours is a crap shoot.  It seems is looking to blame everyone else but herself.  She put herself in that situation and she also had the power to open her mouth then and there and tell Gideon that she didn't like the way she was treated during that "encounter".  It is a shame that she wasn't able to take responsiblility for her actions and what put her in that situation in the first place.  What do you ladies think?

Hi everyone,

I think what surprises me most about Deanna's vendetta against Gideon is that we can be sure when he picked her up that this was very much a one night thing. Based on how he initially tried to pick up Eva, he does not pretend that his pick ups are anything more than a short term arrangement so I highly doubt his approach to Deanna was much different.

Don't get me wrong, the way he treated her at the end was disgusting and I can totally understand why she's upset about that, but I don't think she was going in with false expectations that this was going to turn into a relationship. And if she was that's her own fault for not listening to what Gideon was saying.

Do you agree? Disagree? What do you think?

Hello My Most Favourite Debating Rogue,

I agree with your position.  I think that if anything, Gideon wouldn't have been all that charming in his pick-up style.  I also think that Deanna would have clearly known that this was a "booty call" of sorts.  Gideon didn't even chase Deanna.  Deanna did all of the chasing and flirting, etc.

It was my understanding that the only reason Gideon decided to take Deanna back to the hotel room was because Anne was continually chasing after Gideon and he couldn't "shake her".  The only way that it would be clear to Anne, that he wasn't interested in her, was to leave with another woman.   What do you think?

  1. @SylDay do u reply to your readers or am I wasting my time reading your books. So sorry if I sound rude. Cheers jaqui pic.twitter.com/WSFFZqBc9k

  1. @SylDay Do you ever get afraid that you will run out of ideas for Crossfire series?

  2. @JessicaSchlea No. My biggest fear is the opposite--fitting it all in without cramping anything.

Hi Barb,

Where do you find these comments?  I find it really sad that people think that their anonymity gives them a false sense of entitlement to speak to an author rudely.  It is if civility falls by the wayside.

Hi Sarah,

I think that Gideon's lack of words (POV) thus far, has helped to add to his "mystery".  I would like to know what he felt like and how he was affected by the circumstances in his life.  I think that in order for the series to progress and for us to gain a better understanding of him, we are going to need to hear his voice and understand his POV.  What do you think?

I agree GiGi .She should have given him a hard kick in the privates ,chalked it up to a bad experience and moved on ,I would respect her more.Yes she was hurt by his dismissal and rightfully so but when you go in for a one night stand with a virtual stranger that's the risk you take ,you can hope the person you're going with will be decent and nice toward you but unfortunately it's not guaranteed and she should have known the risk of hurt even rudeness is inherent it that type of interaction even though its altogether wrong .And now for her to go around stalking him and people in his life makes me unsympathetic toward her for something for which she deserves sympathy because honestly he was a pig .The ripple effect of her actions is not hurting just Gideon but other people who were not in that room with them and she doesn't seem to care about that. And the other question would she behave the same if Gideon was some normal guy or is it because of his material worth and good looks that she can't let it go ?

same here Sharon.

Yes she sounds bloody rude!

Why do some people think they are centre of the universe.

Funny how she's like "sorry if I sound rude"

If you dont want to sound rude then its best to not say anything!!!

I often wonder about this type of person.  My mother would have punished me for life if I were that rude to someone, especially in a public forum.  I wonder why celebrities even respond to them.

Hi Ladies,

Since many of you ladies are on FB, did you ladies happen to notice that comment about Sylvia's attire during her book signing?  I finally decided to check out Sylvia's FB page and I was horrified by some of the comments people made!  They felt that they were entitled to post these things!

What ever happened to if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all?

HI ladies--

I love my ipad.  Love it.  And I have an iphone so that when I am out, if I want to read, my books automatically are downloaded since we are "in the cloud."  I have some vision issues so I love that I can make the font as big as I need.  My husband has a Kindle and he likes it a lot.  The font in print books these days is just too small for me.  The ability to read on a devise has made my life so much better and my ability to read for extended periods of time easier.  When I am engrossed in a book, I just cannot stop.

I like to know things from the man's pov.  I loved that last part of FSOG for that.  Sometimes it is hard for a woman to really "get" how a man thinks.  I am curious how Sylvia is going to do this in the next 2 books.  I am looking forward to that.

My daughter does not read these kind of books.  She is a mystery reader.  So, we cannot discuss.  I think it is curious since she is a marriage and family counselor but she feels that there are boundaries that we cannot cross.  Interesting.

Hi GLH,

It is interesting that you mention your daughter.  From your perspective would you feel comfortable discussing se*ual topics with your daughter (if she was old enough, etc.)?   I have a classmate and colleague that subscribes to the  philosophy that she was either hatched from a pod or that her parents only ever had just enough se* until her conception.  After that, her parents might as well have been eunuchs (which I find hillarious)!   :)

My mom has passed away now many years and I am not so sure that I would want to know her personal details (how mortifying! :)).  The less I know about my parents and what they did in their lives (;)  ;))  the happier I am as a human being.  :)  Wouldn't the discussing of these books potentially open the door to relatives talking about their personal lives?  What does everyone think?

Hello!  It took me forever to get registered, but I've been reading for awhile.  Loved the new book, but now the wait begins again.

Anybody think that maybe Megumi is with Martin Stanton?  He was casually seeing her roomie, Lacey, and they don't seem to mind dating men the other one has gone out with before.  Megumi was there when Eva found Victor and Monica together.  Monica's husband's nephew has been hanging around at Megumi's place.  Martin might greatly benefit financially if Monica and Richard split.  Or maybe she's thinking about blackmail?  It wouldn't be fun to be around all those rich people if you were a working girl.

Hi Carolc1001,

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy yourself.  :)

Your suggestion of putting Megumi and Martin together is intersting and I haven't thought of it before.  :)  It is true that in the past both Megumi and Lacey have dated the same man at different times, so your potential theory is plausible.

Are you suggesting that Megumi might have put two and two together (that she figured out that Monica and Victor slept together) or that Monica might have let something slip in the cab they were supposed to share when they both left?  Wow what a delcious twist to an already twisted plot!  You have bgiven me something to think about!  :)

My guess is that Lacey really is/has been out of town, and Megumi is at home (digusing her voice to sound sick when she calls work) hiding a black eye given to her by Michael, who did not take her rejection well.  Another possibility is that her voice sounds so awful because she's got a broken jaw.  :(

Hi Sarah,

Your theory is interesting.  I hope that the snippets start giving us a few more clues to work with.  :)

I still haven't gotten any type of e-reader.  I love my books....I love opening a book and turning the pages.  I love seeing books on bookshelves and being surrounded by them.  I have been thnking of getting a kindle only because it's a pain to travel with two or three books especially if they're heavy!

Hi Claude,

I have to say that there is nothing more comforting than holding an actual book.  I just have to remember not to pack so many when I travel!  You are right, the luggage can get very heavy from all those books! :)

Hi Sharon,

I love Out Of Africa!!!  I can totally relate to lending books to people and never getting them back...sigh!!

I agree.  I think Martin is a good guy, as I've said before.  I get the impression that something is starting with Lacey & Martin.  He didn't know anything about Megumi being sick.  If they were trying to start some blackmail he would have lied and said something like "She is really feeling bad maybe the flu."  He wouldn't want Eva getting noisy.    It is Michael being a stalker/abuser.

Good point about Martin, Sharon.

Hi everyone!

After a long wait and finally being approved, i'm jumping on the bandwagon with you all :)

So here are my 2 cents on all the books:

1: Megumi being sick is not a coincidence ( at least in my mind ), because there were to many times it was mentioned for it to be "normal". Megumi mentions in book 2: Michael is such a great/nice guy, why does he need a blind date, is somethng wrong with him? or sometihng along those lines. This is said when Eva, Monica and Megumi were having lunch together. Something really strange is going on, and I don't know if it only concerns Megumi dumping Michael or that this Michael person is somehow connected with Nathan ( i know this is far fetched ) and trying to get to Eva through Megumi.

2. Nathan being killed and the Russian mob connection... also a strange one. Gideon owns a couple of casino's and in book 3 he tries to sell 1 to get a vineyard, ( from the ex hubby of Corrine the witch )maybe he is trying to ditch a connection there? Gideon doesn't seem to do business with mobsters but still... it could be an option.

3. Bad mom Lizzy and the ring issue... First of all, how did Gideon get that ring? Did Lizzy give it to him, did he took it , did he inherited it? We only know what that ring means to him. To a certain point i can understand that Lizzy is p*ssed off to say the least to see that ring shining on Eve's ringfinger. Especially after Eve's rant to her about the abuse, which is totally justified imho. But Lizzy is the type of person who wants to present a picture perfect family to the outside world.

4. Magda and Corrine and Lizzy.... Well i don't trust the whole bunch. They are all one clique whatever happens. My gut feeling is, is that Magda is trying to get info out of Eve, which she tells to her mom and mom tells it to Lizzy. And Corrine... well she is just bad

5. Eve<-->Brett, Gideon<--> Corrine... Eve is being naive in terms of Brett, she knows he wants more and still hangs out with him. Eventhough nothing happens, there is enough space to feed off for badtalk and gossip and making Gideon mad. Gideon on the otherhand is also being a complete dummy for his continues friendship with Corinne. He knows this upsets Eve and yet he does it.

6. Monica and Victor, maybe i'm alone in this one and i don't promote polygamy, but i kinda liked it. Don't ask me why, but i think that attraction and love after 24 years is still there is kinda lovely.

Pffeew long write, sorry for that. Sorry for writing and grammar errors, I'm not a native English speaker. And sorry if some things are already covered, i didn't read the whole forum..
