Hi Mam2e,

I think Gideon has a lot of healing to do.  I just hope that Eva will be able to help him with his past abuse issues.  I wonder what faith Gideon is.  If he is Catholic, he can safely confess to a priest without fear of reprisal.  The sacrament of Confession is considered sacrosanct (priests cannot be forced to betray the confidence of the parishioner, they cannot break the seal of confession) and could offer Gideon some measure of comfort in such a horrendous situation.   What do you think?  What does everyone think?

;) !!!!

Hi Gabri,

Something that you said rang a bunch of bells for me.  I don’t think that Monica was ever really happy in any of her marriages.  If she was happy she would have been clued in to what was going on in her home, with her daughter and with her husband(s).  Monica always seems to clue in when it’s too late.  Why?

Wouldn’t a woman who truly loved her husband at least give him the opportunity to change, get help or mend his ways?  I almost get the feeling that Monica is a cut and run kind of wife.  That doesn’t seem like a woman who was truly in love with any of the men she married (leaving out Barker and the abuse bit, although I maintain that she probably didn’t love him either).  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

OMG Kirsten you are the BEST! why?? because that picture you posted is when Henry was on the Graham Norton show and I just googled it and its a new episode... if it wasn't for you I would have missed it!! Just set it to record on BBC America!

Hi Fluffy

That episode of Graham Norton was on last night. Henry and Russell were promoting the Superman film. Graham is very funny and quite risqué sometimes. Henry is on our side of the pond at the moment.

I could send him to Italy for "coffee" with our good friend Gabri. :)

hi Gigi

I do have my theory on this, which I stated before. I'm thinking escort service. But Monica is obsessed with money. She married each time for money, for security. Whatever happened in her early years with Eva, possibly struggling as a single mother, made her never want to go there again. She didn't have family support. We know nothing of her living arrangements, did Victor pay maintenance? How long was she on her own? Hope Sylvia gives us some insight to Monica early days.

I've got another idea along your lines, Julie -- mistress. She found some rich and powerful man to keep her as his woman on the side.

She's been pragmatic with Eva about the fact that when it comes to rich and powerful men, they're often married to their careers, and their wives get what time they can spare.

In case where such men keep mistresses, often it is the mistress that gets the quality spare time. The wife gets to have fun spending money.

morning from sunny England

Ooh. I like your thinking. A kept woman.

How easy would it be though to mingle in those sort of circles when your a single mum? How could she get an invite, to get introduced to someone powerful? Yes Monica is a beautiful woman, a head turner, and very capable of trapping a man.

This secret she has, she is not comfortable with, will it hurt Eva and their relationship even more. Or could it reconcile the hurt that Monica has caused between them?

In just one week, we've had nearly as many views of this thread as in almost two months of the re-read thread covering Bared to You and Entwined with You. The records keep falling. Love it!

Sylvia's FB page hit 100,000 likes yesterday. This book really hit the spot!

Monica comes across as the sort of woman willing to take a temporary position (rich man's mistress) while hunting for a permanent position (rich man's wife).

Mr. Barker (Nathan's father and her first husband) was a widower, and so as ruthless and/or desperate as Monica can be, her first marriage didn't involve stealing another woman's man (like the married Corrine was willing to attempt to do.)

Among the needs Barker has was to find a stepmother for Nathan, therefore, it was naturally easy for him to be willing to become a step-parent in return to Eva.

Hi Julie,

So you suspect that Elizabeth Vidal was an escort prior to landing a husband?  The concept is intersting but I am not sure I would buy that.  I know that as pragmatic as Monica may appear to be, somehow I don't see her a a high class hooker.  I can't see her being paid for sex or even being kept as a mistress on the side (basically a long term hooker rental).  Who know's though.

I could see Monica dating or being the girlfriend of a Mob Boss and then getting out of the situation.  I could also see her dating some really shady characters but I just don't see that scenario.  It is just my gut feeling, but again, who know's it coudl just be indigestion.  :)

Hi Julie,

I just wanted to clarify that I couldn't see Monica as an escort becuase somewhere deep down inside, I don't think that Monica would want to "service" married men.  I don't see her as an intentional home wrecker.  I could wrong, but I think that even Monica has some standards.

P.S.  Yes I know that she cheated on Stanton and has potentially wrecked her own marriage, I don't think that she would purposely

set about to wreck another person's marriage.  Just a thought.  :)

Hi Gigi

The thing is. We don't know much about Monica's past.

Could she have been desperate for money being a single person. Her family had cut her off. What sort of education had she had? What career opportunities did she have, with a child in tow? What contact if any did she have with Victor? How did she support herself and Eva? Desperate people do desperate things.

I couldn't see her working at a deli or corner shop!! She was a classy lady, that's why I thought she might have become a high class escort. Where she finally met Barker at a function. He was lonely, as was she. They both had a child. It doesn't sound like they loved each other, just a marriage of convenience. He was away a lot. She spent his money. The rest is history!

I think corinne should get a life and leave Gideon and Eva lone so they can get on with their own life's together it is corinne who ran after Gideon not the other way round she is the one who took the pills yes Gideon used corinne but he done it to keep Eva safe yes it was bad of Gideon to have used corinne but Gideon did tell corinne that he only wanted to be friends so I think everyone should back of Gideon and Eva. I mean the people in the book Sylvia did say that that the rest of the two book would be from Gideon point of view I hate gideons mother and Christopher what a prat he is I really hate deanna Johnson she needs a kicking .i really love Angus he so sweet .i loved the wedding I cried when I read that I was so happy for them .i think deanna is up to something I think she will try and bed Gideon I hope he does not that will really up set Eva I would love to know what he said to deanna when he left the dinner on the Thursday

Hello.

Glad you could join us bunch of merry women and gents(if their there).

Eva has a hearing problem, we said we would club together and get her a hearing aid!!

Deanna definitely has an agenda, Gideon needs to listen to Eva. She has her card marked!

Hi Kirsten,

I went across the street to visit a neighbor of mine who is a crown attorney (therefore an expert in law :)) and he said pretty much the same things.  There would be no way for a DA to prove that Eva knew about the murder before she was married.  It would be one seriously sticky situation as well because Eva is now with Gideon.

I suspect (and it has been confirmed by other lawyers in the forum) that any DA worth his/her salt wouldn’t touch a case like this with a ten foot pole.  It would be tantamount to committing career suicide.  He/she wouldn’t be able to prove “jackâ€!

He also said that justifiable homicide doesn’t include the premeditation of a murder (i.e. a person can’t sit back and actively plan the murder of another human being no matter how despicable that person might be.  Any way you cut a scenario like that, it is premeditated murder.

I am sure that you can chime in on this Kirsten since the law is your specialty and your expertise (and it is greatly appreciated by me and many others). :)  Thanks in advance for the clarification.  I am sure that Canada and the US cannot be that different as far as the interpretation of what Justifiable Homicide means. What do you think?

Morning GiGi,

Your neighbor is correct on all accounts. This is certainly not justifiable homicide since it was most definitely premeditated. While I can clearly see that Nathan was a danger to Eva's well being, Gideon would not be able to use a justifiable homicide defense.

I must be the only one but I am not angry with Monica for sleeping with Victor.  I feel that their love is such a sad one.  She knows herself.  I know women who only date rich men.  Only would consider marrying a wealthy man---not like Stanton but well off.  Yes, Stanton is a good guy.  But we do not know about their marriage.  Wealthy men have no problem writing a check to fix something.  She may be lonely and she does love Victor.  She may be shallow.  She may know that she needs money.  But I do believe that she loves Victor and knows that it is best if they don't  get near each other because of the attraction.  Well, they did.  Mistake.  But we know nothing about the inside story of Monica and Stanton.  Just an alternate idea.

Where the is Book 4?  Sorry, Sylvia.  I know you are busy, but seriously, we are dying here.
